When you need the pump, simply unscrew the head, flip the cartridge around, screw the head back on, and you're ready to go. In this configuration, the holder acts as cold protection.
The pump head inflates by pressing it down against the valve. Note that there should be a maximum of 4-6.5mm of free thread when the cartridge is in the holder; otherwise, the pump head may puncture the CO2 cartridge during storage.
