The 12 speed Shimano XT system is made for both the exerciser and the competition rider.
The cassette here is for the flatter conditions where you do not have to use the big 51h.
The 10-45h throw gives less jumps between the gears and thus gives a better flow in the light gears.
The 2 largest gears are made of aluminum to keep the weight down, and the smaller gears are made of steel, to be able to withstand the wear and tear from the several laps they drive around.
The teeth are made with Shimano's Hyperglide + technology so it changes better, and it is quieter when you use Shimano's chains.
It is mounted on a Microspline cassette case, so you can not mount it on a standard cassette case.
With the new system, it also runs with a 10-tooth gear as the heaviest gear, so the cassette spread becomes wider and it gives you a higher top speed.
If you are running 2x12s it is also this cassette you will need.
