To make a 12 speed rear derailleur, Shimano designed a new rear derailleur from scratch.

They have chosen to use larger 13h pulley wheels and they have managed to keep it at a perfect distance from the cassette so you always get precise and quick shifts.

The larger pulley wheels also make the system quieter and reduce friction as the chain does not have to be clamped around a small pulley wheel and the bearing in the pulley wheel itself does not have to run as many turns.

The rear fitter runs with Shadow + technology that keeps the chain tight and in place in all circumstances. It helps that you do not drop the chain over very uneven terrain, and it also makes sure that the chain does not hit the bike and make marks.

The rear derailleur can run with both 10-45 and 10-51 cassette, and it is made to run with only one chainring in front.
